Dear Member & Patron,
We are excited to continue the long-term transformation of Stowe Country Club into one of the elite playing courses in Vermont. The first phases of our master plan occurred over the past several years with tree clearings, new tee boxes, more drainage and fescue grow-in. Now comes the next major phase of the plan, which will consist of a complete redesign/reconstruction of the #7 and #8 approach and green areas.
We secured Beau Welling Design to begin work on these two green complexes identified as the most critical to making your golf experience better. This project came together very quickly when we discovered a highly reputable golf construction company was currently working in Burlington that could immediately transition to Stowe creating an opportunity we could not refuse. Following exhaustive discussions about timing, it was unanimously agreed that September is the perfect time of year to perform the work. This allows us to design, complete construction and start growing the new greens before winter sets in. Furthermore, mobilizing now versus spring is the difference between us opening next May versus next July or August and potentially missing the main part of next season. Should everything fall into place as expected the project will begin on Tuesday, September 7th.
Though this project will have some effect on your traditional golf round at SCC for the rest of this season, our pledge to you is to ensure the best conditions possible during construction. We have excellent plans in place to mitigate the impact and offer a fantastic 18 holes of golf as the new greens on holes #7 & #8 are built. Our maintenance team will expertly cut two temporary greens and make them remarkably playable. The overall adjustments to the golf course for the remainder of 2021 will be as follows:
- We will redesign and rebuild greens #7 & 8
- We will mow a temporary green on #7 in the fairway just below the existing green. The hole will still play as a par 4.
- The 8th hole would be close completely and traffic would be directed from #7 green to #9 tees
- The first hole would be cut into 2 holes
- We will build a short par 4 off the existing tees with a temporary green in the fairway.
- We will build a fun par 3 from a temporary tee box in the fairway up to the existing green.
- There will be a gap between these two holes for construction traffic coming off Sinclair Drive
I am thrilled to be announcing this project and hope that you are as well. It will certainly make SCC better for generations to come and is a testament to our long-term commitment to you and the future of our beautiful property.
If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to contact me, Michael Harger or Dan Ruane at your convenience.
